To
visit Horseshoe Mesa, Grand Canyon Hikes will be taking you to the
historic Grandview trail. The
Grandview trail was built in the 1890s as the main trail to haul copper
ore up from Horseshoe Mesa to the South Rim.
For about fifteen years, miners made Horseshoe Mesa their home.
Old mining equipment can be found scattered all over the Grandview
trail. Everything from old
winches to wheel barrels paint a beautiful picture of the Grand Canyon’s
colorful past.
History
is alive on Horseshoe Mesa!
The Grandview trail is a PRISTINE trail.
Grand Canyon Hikes promises that on this trail you will not see
donkeys. You won’t see
trash and the amount of tourists in this area is always down to the bare
minimum. This is one of the most serene and beautiful hikes that we can
offer you. In fact, it is one
of our very favorite hikes to share with our clients.
It allows us become one with all natural beauty that is the Grand
Canyon.
For
this hike, we will descend three miles out onto Horseshoe Mesa. This is an
unmaintained trail that you will find is very challenging but also
enormously rewarding. On
the mesa, we will set up a base camp- from this point we will be going on
day hikes in and around the Horseshoe Mesa area.
The tops of our backpacks convert into fanny packs, making our day
hikes very relaxing and extremely enjoyable.
On one of our exciting day hikes, we will be visiting
the Cave of Domes. This is a
hidden and remote cave. This
is NOT a tourist trap! Most
tourists will never get to have this experience at the Grand Canyon.
Humans have rarely touched this cave. The Cave of Domes is a water formed
cave that holds many treasures inside.
Hidden in its walls are many stalactites, stalagmites and exquisite
mineral formations. This
cave’s incredible formations and caverns create a Grand Canyon
memory that you will never forget.

Our
day hikes at Horseshoe Mesa, will also include making sure that you get to
experience the spectacular overlook of the Colorado River.
We will visit the Cottonwood Creek area.
This beautiful, little creek seasonally flows through shimmering
rock walls. When flowing this
creek can really be considered heaven on earth.
The Anasazi Indians heavily populated the area in and around
Horseshoe Mesa. Here they
established many small village type areas.
We will be visiting one of the sites that these Anasazi people made
home. You will get to see a
eight hundred year old Anasazi pueblo!
This is one of those great photo opportunities that happen so often
in the Grand Canyon. Please
allow your guide to take any photos of you and your group that you would
like.
Horseshoe Mesa offers unforgettable wide-open views, stunning sunsets and
the awesome chance to experience the Grand Canyon’s historical side.
This is the trip that Grand Canyon dreams are made of.
Please allow Grand Canyon Hikes to take you on this trip of pure
adventure!
